Men's Basketball Falls in Tournament Championship Game

Box Score SYRACUSE, NY - The Northampton men's basketball team fell to host Onondaga Community College, 83-77, in the championship game of the Lazer Classic on Sunday afternoon at the SRC Arena and Events Center.

Lloyd Parkmond scored 17 points in the win along with seven rebounds and a steal and was named the Classic's Most Outstanding Player.  Kameron DiSanto also tallied 17 points for Onondaga and was named to the All-Tournament Team while Ryan Hawkins (Anne Arundel), Michael Samuel (Northampton), Tyrin Grantham (Northampton) and Bo Murray (Delaware County) were also selected to the 2014 Onondaga Classic All-Tournament Team.

Northampton would prove to be the aggressor in the opening minutes of the first half as the Spartans built their largest lead of the game, 19-14, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half, but the lead would quickly dissolve when the Lazers reeled off eight unanswered points capped by a 3-pointer in the corner from DiSanto to give the home team a slight edge, 22-19.

Neither team was able to create any distance as the half wore on with the lead being exchanged four times before Onondaga took the lead on a pair of free throws from DiSanto.

As the half approached, the Lazers held a four-point lead, but would go into the locker room up by a single point, 34-33, thanks to a Spartans' shot from beyond the arc as time expired.

In the second stanza, both teams would continue to jockey for the lead until a 12-3 run by the Lazers opened up an eight point margin.

After a Spartan's bucket,
Kyle Kline would give Onondaga its largest lead of the game after burying a corner three to put the Lazers up by nine, 54-45.

Northampton would shrink away Onondaga's lead after an old-fashioned 3-point play by Grantham tied the score with just over three minutes left to play, but sound free throw shooting down the stretch would seal the win for the Lazers.

Tyrin Grantham led Northampton with 21 points, while Michael Samuel added 18.

Northampton (1-1) returns to action on Saturday November 8th vs. Middlesex County College at 2pm in the first round of the Northampton Tip-Off Tournament.
