Grantham's 24 Leads Northampton Over Thaddeus Stevens

LANCASTER, Pa. - Tyrin Grantham scored 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds as Northampton snapped a two-game losing streak with a hard fought 69-68 victory over Thaddeus Stevens College on Thursday evening.

Grantham, who leads Northampton in scoring at 16.7ppg, was 11 of 22 from the field while Justin Escobar (11.1ppg) added 15 points with a 6 for 11 performance from the field, including two triples.

"I thought the guys did a nice job fighting through adversity tonight," commented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "we were able to stay focused when things didn't go our way and we were able to battle on the road for an important conference victory."

The evenly matched teams (who split their season series last year), battled back and forth through a tightly contested first half.  Northampton pulled away from a 1-point halftime lead to take an 8-point advantage midway thru the second half, but Stevens fought back late, cutting the margin to two with 20 seconds to play.  Tyler Jean-Baptiste (6 points) knocked down 1 of 2 free throws to give the Spartans a 3-point lead before Stevens cut the margin to one with 6 seconds remaining, with the ball, but they missed the game winner.

Derek Kulp added 11 points, 5 assists and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Jean-Baptiste dished out 7 assists, as Northampton improved to 2-2 in Region XIX and 3-5 overall.

Stevens falls to 2-2 in Region XIX and 2-5 overall.

The Spartans are now off until November 25th when they host Harrisburg Area Community College at 8pm.
