Women's Basketball Advances to "Turkey Hoopshoot" Championship

RANDOLPH, NJ - The Northampton women's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the County College of Morris Turkey Hoopshoot with a 60-49 victory over Orange County Community College on Saturday night at Sullivan Arena.

Keyed by a strong man to man defensive effort, the Spartans led almost the entire game in defeating NJCAA Division II member Orange (NY), "I thought our defensive intensity was the key to the game," commented Head Coach Art Wolfe, "we stayed in our man defense the entire game and they (Orange) never were able to get on track offensively.  Zeniyah had a nice all-around game for us and the entire team really stepped it up on the defensive end."

Lauren Thompson scored 14 points and had 5 assists, while freshman Zeniyah Sanders added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals.  Nicole Amann had 11 points as the Spartans advanced to their third tournament championship game of the season.

Northampton, 6-3 overall, will face Rowan College @ Gloucester County (3-2) at 2pm in the tournament championship game on Sunday.
