Niagara County Downs Northampton for Tournament Title

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Niagara County Community College took advantage of the absence of point guard Julia Craig in the second half, utilizing a strong man to man defense to outscore the Spartans by 17 points to win the Northampton Tip Off Tournament title, 71-48, on Sunday afternoon.

"Losing Julia to the injury really hurt us," lamented Head Coach Art Wolfe, "not having her at the point guard position limited us somewhat, but give Niagara credit, they are very talented and play hard."

Lauren Thompson led Northampton with 16 points and 8 assists, while Zeniyah Sanders had a team-high 8 rebounds.

The Spartans, 2-3 overall, open up Region XIX play on Tuesday when they travel to Luzerne County Community College for a 6pm contest.

Jesse DeWaters of Niagara County Community College (5-0) was named Tournament MVP.
