First Half Run Leads Harcum to Victory over Spartans

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Harcum College took advantage of their quickness and the absence of Spartan standout Lauren Thompson to earn a 67-53 victory in Region XIX women's basketball action on Thursday evening at Kelly Hall.

The Division II Bears led by 3 with eight minutes remaining in the first half when they switched to a full-court press which extended their lead to 14 by halftime.  "The press really bothered us," commented Head Coach Art Wolfe, "Harcum's quickness and our inability to pass out of pressure, really changed the game."

Kirston Jones and Nicole Amann each scored 12 points and Dominique Oyeniyi grabbed 9 rebounds to lead Northampton, which played without leading scorer Lauren Thompson who is out for 5 to 7 weeks with a knee injury.

Northampton falls to 9-4 overall, with all four losses coming to NJCAA Division II teams.

Harcum improves to 4-7 overall.

The Spartans will close out the first semester on Saturday when they host conference rival Bucks County Community College at 12pm.
