TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Northampton men's basketball team dropped their regular season finale, falling 85-67, to Ocean County College on Tuesday evening.
A woeful 1 for 10 shooting performance to start the game contributed to an early 22-4 deficit, which Northampton was able to trim to 43-34 at halftime. The Spartan's shooting woes continued in the second half, as they would finish 26 for 81 (32%) for the game as Ocean County was able to slowly extend their lead in the second half to earn the 18 point victory.
"Credit Ocean," commented Head Coach Mike Kaminski, "their interior defense disrupted a number of our shots ... their record is very deceptive, they are a very good team."
Malcolm Lyles scored 22 points and
Tyler Krchnavi had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds to lead Northampton.
The loss drops Northampton to 13-12 overall, while Ocean County improves to 10-15.
Northampton's fate now rests in the hands of the Region XIX basketball committee as they will seed the Regional tournament on Thursday February 20th. Northampton most likely will be on the road Saturday in a first round matchup.
