LINCROFT, NJ - #1 seed Brookdale eliminated 9th seeded Northampton from the Region XIX Tournament with a convincing 88-66 victory on Tuesday evening at Collins Arena.
Brookdale, the defending national champions, used a stifling defense and balanced offense to take a commanding 24 point halftime lead and cruised to a 22 point victory and berth in the Region XIX Final Four.
Northampton, which advanced to the quarterfinals with an 88-76 victory over Lehigh Carbon on Saturday, couldn't match the Jersey Blues on the glass, "Brookdale is just so deep and so balanced," commented NCC Head Coach Mike Kaminski, "they do a great job controlling the boards and getting out the break and really make you pay for your mistakes."
The Spartans, who finish the season 14-13, were led by
Malcolm Lyles with 16 points and
Brent Maron with 12 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Brookdale, which improves to 27-1, will now face 4th seeded Union County College in the Region XIX semi-finals on Thursday at Collins Arena.
