Spartans Fall in Overtime to Delaware County

CHESTER, Pa. -Delaware's Landen Jenkins hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 65 and send it to overtime and the Phantoms outscored Northampton 9 to 5 in the extra session to earn a pivotal Region XIX victory on Saturday afternoon at Widener University.

"Too many defensive lapses in the second half," lamented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "especially down the stretch when we let a 9-point lead slip away ... we need to do a better job putting teams away when we have the opportunity, we just never made that big shot or got that big stop defensively to put them away."

Derek Kulp had 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Justin Escobar added 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead Northampton.

The Spartans struggled from the floor, shooting 18% from behind the arc (5 for 27) and 36% overall (26 for 72).  Jeremiah Coleman added 9 rebounds and Escobar dished out a team-high 7 assists.

Northampton falls to 8-12 overall, 7-9 in Region XIX and 7-8 in conference.

Delaware improves to 9-16 overall, 8-8 in Region XIX and 8-6 in conference.

The Spartans host Lehigh Carbon Community College on Tuesday night at 8pm in their final home game of the 2014-15 season.
