Box Score PATERSON, NJ - Despite another slow start, the Northampton women's basketball team pulled away from a 13 point halftime lead to down Passaic County Community College 70-37 on Thursday evening at Panther Hall.
"We continue to struggle in the first quarter," lamented Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "we only led by two after the 1st quarter (13-11) and we just have not been sharp. Â I was very pleased with our effort in the second half, outscoring Passaic (0-1) by 20 points ... we did a much better job executing the offense and our press really seemed to bother them."
Deana McKeller (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) led the Spartans with 16 points off the bench while
Zeniyah Sanders (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. Â
Tytiona Goodwin (Allentown, PA /Dieruff) recorded 6 steals,
Kaitlyn Cappetta (Nazareth, Pa/Nazareth) had 6 assists and
Kye Adams (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) added 11 points for the Spartans.Â
Northampton, now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Region XIX, will travel to Syracuse, NY this weekend to compete in the Onondaga Lazer Tip-Off Tournament. Â The Spartans will face SUNY Sullivan at 3pm on Saturday in the first round.
