SYRACUSE, NY - After a disappointing defeat on Saturday afternoon to SUNY Sullivan, the Northampton women's basketball team charged out of the gates to a 12-0 lead on Sunday vs. Dutchess Community College and never looked back, winning 73-33 in the consolation game of the Onondga Lazer Invitational.
"The team played with a purpose today," remarked Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "they came out of the locker room ready to play and sustained that energy for 40 minutes."
Zeniyah Sanders (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) earned All-Tournament Team honors after grabbing 12 rebounds, while
Amber Farnholtz (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) added 17 points and
Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) had a great all-around game with 11 points, 10 assists and 7 steals.
"Going into the half up 18 we knew the challenge was going to be maintaining our intensity on the defensive end," commented Belfield, "we challenged the team to hold Dutchess to less than 17 points in the final two quarters and they accomplished that goal."
Northampton, now 3-2 overall on the season, will play their home opener on Tuesday night night when they host EPAC rival Luzerne County Community College, with tip-off set for 6pm.
