BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Trailing by 20 in the second half, the Northampton men's basketball team mounted a spirited comeback to cut the margin to 6 with 1:03 remaining, but Delaware County Community College was able to pull-out the conference victory, 83-71, on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Eriq Washington (Philadelphia, PA/Mastery Charter ) came off the bench to lead Northampton with 22 points, while
Justin Kellman (Reading, PA/Reading ) led the Spartans off the glass with 16 rebounds, as Northampton dominated the rebounding margin, 43 to 28.
"We gave up way too many easy baskets." stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "they were able to get to the rim and get some uncontested looks ... our intensity improved, but we had dug ourselves too deep of a hole."
Bryson Walton (Allentown, PA /William Allen ) and
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA /Pennsbury ) each scored 13 points, while Walton added 7 assists .
Alquinton McNeil (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) added 8 points on 4 of 6 shooting and 9 rebounds for the Spartans.
The loss drops Northampton to 5-6 overall, 3-6 in Region XIX and 3-4 in conference play.
Delaware improves to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in conference.
Northampton returns to the hardwood on Tuesday night when they travel to Johnson College in Scranton, PA.
