Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Stays Alive with 77-60 Victory Over Sussex

TANNERSVILLE, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team kept their playoff dreams alive, defeating Sussex County Community College 77-60 on Thursday night at Pocono Hall on their Tannersville Campus.

The Spartans shot 57% from the field, including an 8 for 11 performance from behind the arc, led by Brandon Schlosser's (12 points) 4 for 5 effort.  "I thought we played very efficiently tonight," remarked Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "we scored 77 points and only attempted 49 shots ... we had a couple defensive lapses in the second half and allowed Sussex to get back in the game, but overall it was a good effort.  The guys all know what's on the line ... now it all comes down to Saturday at Cumberland ... win and we are in, lose and the season is over."

Justin Escobar led five Spartans in double figures with 18, followed by Michael Samuel (15), Schlosser (12), Josh Coleman (11) and Derek Kulp (10).  Escobar added 9 rebounds and 4 assists, as the Spartans held a 33-25 rebounding advantage.

Northampton, now 11-14 overall and 10-11 in Region XIX, needs to defeat Cumberland on Saturday in Vineland, NJ to qualify for the postseason.

Sussex falls to 6-20 overall and 5-18 in Region XIX.
