Cumberland Dashes Postseason Dreams for Northampton with Overtime Victory

VINELAND, NJ - After being eliminated from postseason consideration with a loss on Tuesday night, Cumberland County College came out Saturday and played spoiler, defeating Northampton 76-69 in overtime, to knock the Spartans out of the postseason.

The Spartans led 63-60 with 2:42 remaining in the contest, but only managed 2 points the rest of regulation as the Dukes were able to tie the contest at 65 and send it to overtime.  In the extra session Cumberland dominated play, outscoring Northampton 11 to 4 to earn the season-ending victory.

"Today was kind of a synopsis of our season," lamented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "too many defensive lapses and a lack of offenisve firepower ... these kids play hard, I really appreciate everything they did and how hard they fought all season."

Justin Escobar led Northampton with 16 points and 9 rebounds, Michael Samuel added 14 points and Josh Kaiser had 9.  Derek Kulp led the Spartans on the backboards with 10 rebounds.

The Spartans end the 2014-15 season with an overall record of 11-15, 10-12 in Region XIX and 9-9 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC).

Cumberland finishes 13-15 overall, 10-12 in Region XIX and 8-12 in the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC).
