Women's Basketball Falls To Cumberland in Semi-Finals

LINCROFT, NJ - The Northampton women's basketball team saw their season come to an end on Thursday night as #1 seed Cumberland County College ousted the Spartans from the Region XIX Tournament with a 89-70 victory at Brookdale Community College.

The Spartans led 34-29 with 2 minutes remaining in the first half before the Dukes closed the half on an 11-0 run to take a 40-34 lead into the locker room.  Cumberland controlled the boards in the second half, outscoring the Spartans 49-36 to earn a berth in the Region XIX championship game on Saturday vs. Middlesex County College.

"Cumberland deserves all the credit," commented Head Coach Art Wolfe, "they are a very good team ... both games against them were very similar, very tight ballgames in the first half, but in the second half they just methodically put you away."

Nicole Amann (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) led Northampton with 25 points, while Zenyiah Sanders had 17, Lauren Thompson (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove HS) 13 and Amber Farnholtz (Northampton, PA/Northampton HS) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The Spartans, who were seeded 4th, finish the 2015 season with a record of 19-9.
