Spartans Upend Lehigh Carbon to Remain in Playoff Hunt

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team kept their playoff hopes alive with a hard-fought 59-53 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.

The Spartans held Lehigh Carbon to 22 second half points and limited leading scorer Josh Brown to 19 points on 6 of 15 shooting, as the Cougars only managed to shoot 28.8% from the floor (17 of 59).  "I thought we did a good job on the defensive end tonight," commented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "we dominated the backboards (50 to 20) and limited them to 6 fast break points, which we knew would be a key stat tonight."

Josh Coleman led the Spartans with 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds and Michael Samuel added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The win moves Northampton to 9-12 overall and 8-9 in Region XIX with five games to play.  The Spartans must win three of their final five games to qualify for the Region XIX tournament.  Next up for Northampton is a trip to Lincroft, NJ to face Brookdale Community College at 7pm on Thursday at Collins Arena.

Lehigh Carbon falls to 10-12 overall with the loss.
