Men's Basketball

Northampton Falls to Brookdale, 77-70

LINCROFT, NJ - The Northampton men's basketball team battled perennial NJCAA power Brookdale for 40 minutes, but in the end the Jersey Blues earned a 77-70 victory at Collins Arena on Thursday evening.

"Well played game by both teams," remarked Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "I thought we did a good job on the backboards and limiting points in the paint, but Isaiah Johnson (29 points) hurt us.  Brookdale is very well-coached and do a good job running their sets ... we had a couple of droughts where we just couldn't score and they really shot it well from behind the arc (11 3-pointers)."

Michael Samuel led Northampton with 20 points and 6 assists and Derek Kulp added 16 points and 6 rebounds.

Northampton, which falls to 9-13 overall and 8-10 in Region XIX, must win 3 of their final 4 games to qualify for the Region XIX tournament.

Brookdale improves to 13-9 overall and 12-6 in Region XIX.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bucks County Community College to face the Centurians at 2pm.
