Jersey Blues Edge Spartans in Region XIX Showdown

LINCROFT, NJ - Brookdale Community College took their first lead of the game with 3:40 remaining in the second half and held on to defeat Northampton, 75-67, in a Region XIX women's basketball showdown on Thursday evening at Collins Arena.

Trailing for over 36 minutes, the Jersey Blues rallied down the stretch and converted 15 of 18 free throws to earn a pivotal victory in a contest with major seeding implications.  "I thought we played pretty well," commented Head Coach Art Wolfe, "except for the last 3 minutes.  We weren't able to put them away ... we let them hang around and they took advantage of it."

Lauren Thompson led Northampton with 18 points while Nicole Amann had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals.

Both teams converted 28 field goals, but the difference was at the foul line where the Spartans converted 7 of 11 free throws while the Jersey Blues finished 15 of 18.

The loss drops Northampton to 16-7 overall and 8-2 in Region XIX.

Brookdale improves to 15-7 overall and 11-4 in Region XIX.

The Spartans will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they travel to Newtown, PA to face Bucks County Community College at 12pm.
