Box Score NANTICOKE, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team opened the semester with a convincing 75-13 victory over Luzerne County Community College on Tuesday night at James T. Atherton Gymnasium. Â
The Spartans jumped out to a 26-1 lead after one quarter and led 43-3 at halftime, before cruising to the 62 point victory. Â "It is always difficult to come back after the semester break," remarked Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "I thought we were a little sluggish early, but we once we got going, we played pretty well."
Kye Adams (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) and
Jenesa Fields (Brodheadsville, PA /Pleasant Valley) each scored 12 points to pace the Spartans, while
Zeniyah Sanders (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Â
Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) added 4 assists and
Tytiona Goodwin (Allentown, PA /Dieruff) recorded 7 steals for Northampton. Â
The victory improves Northampton to 11-3 overall, 9-1 in Region XIX and 6-0 in conference play.
Luzerne falls to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in conference.Â
Northampton returns to action on Thursday when they host nationally-ranked Middlesex County College at 6pm in the Region XIX Game of the Week.Â
