Brennan McCarthy liked his chances entering the second half ... that was until his Spartans shot 4 for 24 (16.7%) in the second stanza, falling to CCP, 70-41, on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Even with the poor second half shooting, the Spartans still only found themselves down 10 (50-40), with just over 8 minutes remaining in the contest. The Colonials then went on a 20-0 run to close the door and earn their conference-leading 10th victory. The Colonials dominated the backboards, hauling down 49 rebounds compared to only 25 for the Spartans, including a 17 to 4 advantage on the offensive boards.
Alquinton McNeil (Northampton, PA/Northampton ), the only Spartan in double figures, led Northampton with 14 points.
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) added 8 and
Joe Cartagena (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) had 8 as the Spartans finished the game, 15 of 52 from the field (28.8%).
Northampton falls to 7-9 overall, 5-9 in Region XIX and 5-6 in the EPAC.
Philadelphia, which has now won 8 straight, improves to 13-4 overall, 11-4 in Region XIX and 10-1 in the EPAC.
CCP sweeps the season series, winning the first matchup back in November, 88-81 in overtime, in Philadelphia.
Northampton returns to action on Tuesday at 8pm when they host Montgomery County Community College in a crucial EPAC matchup.
