Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - Delaware County Community College overcame a 5 point halftime deficit, outscoring Northampton 48-35 in the second half to earn a 79-71 victory on Saturday at Widener University.
"Defensively it was a tale of two halves for us," lamented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we were able to force Delaware into some tough shots in the first half, but in the second half we just could not get the crucial stops that we needed."
The Spartans trailed by 4 with 1:30 remaining, but the Phantoms were able to convert from the line and Sean Havink had his second big outing vs. the Spartans, scoring 27 points, after dropping 33 in the first contest between the two teams.
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) led Northampton with 21 points, while
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA /Pennsbury ) added 19 and
Bryson Walton (Allentown, PA /William Allen ) 12.
Justin Kellman (Reading, PA/Reading ) had a team-high 11 rebounds and
Edwin Lopez (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg ) dished out 7 assists for the Spartans.
Northampton, which now must finish 4-1 in its final five games to qualify for the postseason, falls to 9-11 overall, 7-11 in Region XIX and 7-7 in conference.
Delaware improves to 12-7 overall, 12-5 in Region XIX and 12-2 in conference play.
Northampton returns to the hardwood on Tuesday when they host Lehigh Carbon Community College at 8pm. All fans are encouraged to wear white to support the WhiteOut planned for the event.
