Box Score SEWELL, NJ - The Northampton women's basketball team, playing without leading scorer
Zeniyah Sanders (Northampton, PA/Northampton ), picked up a crucial road win on Saturday, downing Rowan College @ Glocester County, 62-52, at Case Arena.
The Spartans used a fiesty defensive effort and and strong inside play from
Asia Morton (Easton, PA/Easton ),
Jenesa Fields (Brodheadsville, PA /Pleasant Valley) and
Deana McKeller (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South ) to gain control of the contest after a back-and-forth first quarter. "Both teams struggled during the opening 10 minutes," remarked Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "but I thought our defensive intensity in the second quarter swung the momentum in our favor and allowed us to have an 8 point cushion (24-16) going into halftime."
Northampton led 42-26 at the start of the 4th quarter, the Roadrunners went on a run to cut the margin to single digits, but the Spartans regrouped behind sophomore point guard
Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) and held on for the 10-point victory. Craig finished with 14 points, while Morton grabbed 16 rebounds and McKeller scored 12 points and had 5 rebounds.
Northampton improves to 16-4 overall and 14-2 in Region XIX.
RCGC falls to 11-10 overall and 10-8 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday in an EPAC battle as the host Lehigh Carbon Community College at 6pm. All fans are encouraged to wear white as a WhiteOut event is planned.
