Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Community College of Philadelphia, the two-time defending Region XIX champions, held off Northampton down the stretch to earn a 78-68 victory in Region XIX men's basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Colonial Center.
CCP jumped out to a 48-32 halftime lead, saw Northampton tie the game with 3 minutes remaining, but were able to hold on down the stretch and pull out the 10 point victory. "Unfortunately, another slow start put is in too big of a hole," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we were able to fight back from 16 down on the road, but just couldn't get over the hump in the final minutes. Â I thought our defensive effort in the second half was outstanding, but we still need to work on putting together a full 40 minute effort."
Jerrel Burke (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) led Northampton with 24 points, while
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, PA/William Allen ) added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Â
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) dished out 5 assists and
Justin Kellman (Reading, PA /Reading ) added 10 boards.
The loss drops Northampton to 7-7 overall, 5-4 in Region XIX and 5-3 in the EPAC.Â
Philadelphia, the third ranked team in the Region according to the Region XIX Power Rankings, improves to 10-3 overall, 9-2 in Region XIX and 8-1 in conference play.Â
Northampton will travel to Widener University on Saturday to face Delaware County Community College at 1pm in their final contest of the semester.Â
