Box Score BINGHAMTON, NY - Sean Webb (19 points) scored with no time remaining to lead Broome Community College to a 79-77 victory over Northampton in men's basketball on Thursday evening at the Hornets Nest at Minch Arena.
Northampton, which trailed by 15 at halftime, 48-33, battled back in the second half to take a 9-point lead with five minutes remaining, but the Hornets were able to tie the game at 77 with 20 seconds remaining. Northampton couldn't convert on a contested layup with 10 seconds remaining, Broome secured the rebound, setting up Webb's game-winning heroics.
"Bottom line is that a poor defensive effort in the first half cost us this game," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we gave up way too many easy baskets ... I thought our effort in the second half was much more reflective of our team, but we expended a lot of energy to make up that deficit and couldn't hold the lead down the stretch. I'm proud of the fight in the guys to come back and take the lead, but we are not at a point for moral victories."
The Spartans, who shot just under 50% (29/61) from the field, placed five players in double figures, led by
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) with 15,
Jerrel Burke (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) 14,
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) 14,
