Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team opened the second semester in dominating fashion, downing Johnson College, 113-59, on Tuesday evening at the Stacknick Center.
Taking the court for the first time since December 13th, the Spartans placed 7 of 8 players in double figures, led by
Tyerell Mann (East Stroudsburg, PA /Notre Dame - East Stroudsburg ) and
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, PA/William Allen ), each with 21. Â
Justin Kusiappouh (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North )Â had 17,
Jerrel Burke (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) 14,
Rafel Davis (Bronx, NY/Bronx Prep ) 13,
Edwin Lopez (East Stroudsburg, PA /Stroudsburg ) and
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) 10 each and
Justin Kellman (Reading, PA /Reading ) added 7 as the Spartans had 44 field goals, including 11 three-pointers.
Kusiappouh added 18 rebounds, Hinton-Gray had 15 and Perez-Jones handed out a team-high 6 assists.Â
"It's never easy coming back from that long of a layoff," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "but I thought the guys did a good job shaking off the rust and getting out on the break. Â We did some good things on the offensive end, but I thought we got a little complacent on the defensive side of the ball and started committing too many fouls."
The win moves Northampton to 8-7 overall, 6-4 in Region XIX and 6-3 in the EPAC.Â
Johnson falls to 2-17 overall, 2-11 in Region XIX and 2-10 in conference.
Northampton returns to action on Thursday night when they host Lehigh Carbon Community College at 8pm at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center.Â
