BLACKWOOD, NJ - Freshman
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, Pa. /Harrisburg) notched his first collegiate double-double to help lead the Northampton Men's Basketball team to a 58-54 victory over Camden County College on Saturday afternoon at Banks Arena.
Barrett, who finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, was joined in double figures by
Arnel Lewis (Easton, Pa. /Easton), who scored a team-high 14 and
Jay Davis (Northwest, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) who had 13.
The Spartans led by one at halftime (25-24) and then fought back from a 7 point deficit in the second half and took their largest lead (6 points) with just over 9 minutes remaining.
"Any time you can knock off a GSAC team on the road, it is a good win," remarked Northampton mentor
Brennan McCarthy, "we didn't shoot it well today, but that is credit to Camden's defense ... luckily we were able to get to the foul line (18/24) and convert and the guys really did a great job controlling the backboards (Northampton out-rebounded Camden 54-38)."
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) added 9 rebounds and Davis was credited with 5 steals.
The win moves Northampton to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Region XIX.
Camden falls to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lancaster, PA to face Thaddeus Stevens College.
