SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team remained undefeated, downing Lehigh Carbon Community College 82-45 on Thursday evening, to improve to 6-0 overall.
The Spartans received a career-high 25 points from
Jay Davis (Northwest, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) recorded another double-double, finishing with 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Despite a slow start and a poor shooting first half (12/41), the Spartans still managed to head to the locker room with a 35-12 lead at halftime.
The Spartans heated up in the second half, knocking down 20 out of 32 field goal attempts, scoring 47 points to earn the 37 point victory.
"This is a tough environment," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "anytime Northampton comes to the Cougar Dome you know the crowd will be ready. I thought we were a little tentative offensively early, but our defensive intensity carried us. In the second half we found a better rhythm and really found our stride."
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, Pa. /Harrisburg) added 10 points and 12 rebounds for Northampton, which had a 56-30 advantage on the boards.
Northampton improves to 6-0 overall, 4-0 in Region XIX and 3-0 in conference play.
LCCC falls to 1-5 overall, 1-2 in Region XIX and 1-2 in the EPAC.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, when they will face Penn State Lehigh Valley at Cedar Crest College at 3pm.
