BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team opened the 2017-18 campaign with a 102-69 victory over Delaware County Community College on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Carlos Gutierrez (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) led four scorers in double figures with 27, while
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) finished with 18 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Jay Davis (Northwest, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added 14 points and
Arnel Lewis (Easton, Pa. /Easton) had 12 as the Spartans shot 51% from the field (37/73).
"I was very happy with our performance tonight, given that it was our first game," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we still have a lot to work on, but for our first game I thought we executed our offensive sets and did a good job on the boards, out-rebounding them by 24."
The Spartans (1-0) will return to action on Saturday when they host Penn State Schuylkill in the first game of the Northampton Tip-Off Tournament at 6:30pm. Tournament action begins at 12pm when the Cumberland women face Mercer, followed by a men's match-up of the same schools at 2pm. The Northampton women play at 4:30pm, followed by the men.
