BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Led by 5 players in double figures, the Northampton Men's Basketball team routed Montgomery County Community College, 126-72, on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) scored a team-high 26 points and hauled down 17 rebounds, while
Carlos Gutierrez (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) 21,
Jay Davis (Northwest, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) 19,
Arnel Lewis (Easton, Pa. /Easton) 15 and
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, Pa. /Harrisburg) 14 all joined him in double figures.
The Spartans shot a staggering 56% from the floor (48/86) and dominated the boards 64-32 en route to the victory.
"Little sluggish at the start, but I expected that given the lengthy layoff between games," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we hadn't played since our game at Johnson on the 21st, so we had some uncharacteristic mistakes, but we were able to use our size and quickness to gain an advantage and eventually take control of the game."
Lewis added a game-high 7 assists for Northampton, which led the entire game.
The Spartans improve to 9-0 overall, 6-0 in Region XIX and 5-0 in the EPAC.
Montgomery falls to 1-9 overall, 1-8 in Region XIX and 1-4 in conference play.
Northampton returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Harrisburg for a 7:00pm matchup vs. the HACC Hawks.
