Women's Basketball Falls in Opener, 61-46

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team opened the 2017-18 campaign with a 61-46 loss to Penn St. Schuylkill on Saturday afternoon at the Northampton Tip-Off Tournament. 

The Spartans were doomed by a tough shooting night, only managing a paltry 20% from the field (15 of 74).  Dom Moser (Easton, Pa./Easton ) led Northampton with 19 points, while Krista Cappetta (Nazareth, Pa/Nazareth) joined her in double figures with 12. 

The Lions raced out to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, outscoring the Spartans 32 to 8 in the paint. 

Lamani Bruce (Bath, Pa. /Northampton ) hauled down a team-high 13 rebounds for Northampton. 

The Spartans, now 0-1, will face Region XIX foe Cumberland in the consolation game on Sunday at 11:00am.
