NEWTOWN, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team pulled out a crucial EPAC victory on Saturday, downing a pesky Bucks County Community College squad, 63-59, to remain one game behind Delaware County in the conference standings. The Spartans overcame a tough shooting day from the floor (20 of 55) by capitalizing on another strong defensive effort to lead them to their 5th straight victory and 7th in eight games since returning from semester break.
"Bucks has really been playing well lately, knocking down a ton of three's," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we knew going in we were going to need to get out and defend the arc and I thought we did good job overall defensively to hold that team to 59 points."
Isiah Hinton Gray led Northampton with 15 points and added 10 rebounds,
Justin Kellman (Reading, PA /Reading ) added 9 points and a team-high 15 rebounds and
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) scored 10 points for the Spartans.
Northampton improves to 14-8 overall, 12-5 in Region XIX and 12-3 in the EPAC. The Spartans trail conference leader Delaware County by one game in the standings, as the Phantoms currently sit at 13-2. Northampton has four games remaining, three of those in conference, including two match-ups with Delaware; February 16th at home (7:30pm) and February 21st at Widener University (7pm). The Spartans other conference game is a trip to Luzerne County Community College on Sunday February 19th for a 1pm tip.
Bucks falls to 9-15 overall, 8-14 in Region XIX and 7-11 in conference play.
Next up for Northampton is a match-up with Sussex County Community College that will take place on the Monroe County Campus in Tannersville, Pa. on Tuesday February 14th at 7pm.
