Spartans Take Over Top Spot in EPAC With Win Over Delaware

Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Playing before a raucous home crowd on sophomore night, the Northampton men's basketball had what Head Coach Brennan McCarthy called their "most complete" effort of the year in a 109-66 victory over Delaware County Community College on Thursday evening.

In what began as a tight, back and forth affair, turned into a lopsided victory for the red hot Spartans, who improved to 9-1 this semester.  "We really put together 40 minutes of basketball on both ends of the court tonight," commented McCarthy, "it was without question our most complete effort of the season, and it came against a very good opponent."

Jerrel Burke (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) scored a team-high 25 points and dished out 5 assists, while Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) added 15 points, 9 assists and 8 steals.  Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, PA/William Allen ) recorded another double-double, finishing with 16 points and 14 rebounds and Justin Kellman (Reading, PA /Reading ) added 11 points and 8 boards.

The win moves Northampton into first place in the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) at 13-3, while Delaware drops into second at 13-4.  The Spartans have two conference games remaining; Sunday at Luzerne (1pm) and then a trip to Widener University on February 21st at 6pm for a rematch with Delaware.

Northampton improves to 16-8 overall and 14-5 in Region XIX, while the Phantoms fall to 14-11 overall and 13-7 in Region XIX.
