Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team continued their playoff push, improving to 6-1 since returning from break, with a 79-67 victory over the Community College of Philadelphia on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Jerrel Burke (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) scored a game-high 24 points and
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, PA/William Allen ) and
Justin Kusiappouh (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) each registered double-doubles as Northampton earned their first victory over Philadelphia since November 12, 2008.
"I knew it had been awhile," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "but I didn't know it had been that long. Just a great team effort tonight ... anytime you beat a Joe Rome coached team you know you earned it ... the guys earned it tonight."
Hinton-Gray finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, while Kusiapouh had 10 poitns and 10 boards.
Juan Perez-Jones (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury ) added 11 points and 4 assists.
The win moves Northampton to 13-8 overall, 11-5 in Region XIX and 11-3 in the EPAC.
Philadelphia, the two-time defending Region XIX champions fall to 17-9 overall, 16-8 in Regin XIX and 12-5 in conference play.
Northampton returns to the hardwood on Thursday when they host Delaware County Community College at 7pm in an EPAC showdown.
