MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Sophomore catcher
Angel Lopez (Santurce, PR/Perkiomen School) continued his hot-streak at the plate, going 3 for 3 including hitting his 3rd homerun of the trip, to help power the Northampton baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Genesee Community College on Wednesday morning.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd, as
Michael Ferrara (Cresco, PA/Pocono Mt. East),
Brett Marks (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City (FL)) and
Liam Grande (Trappe, PA/Perkiomen Valley) each singled, and
Christian Del Toro (Trujillo Alto, PR/Perkiomen School ) then smashed a 2-run single to give Northampton an early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, Lopez and
Tyler Melko (Knoxville, PA/Cowanesque Valley) each singled and Ferrara then singled to bring home Lopez to make it 3-0. Del Toro (2 for 3) led of the bottom of the 4th with a triple,
Cody Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) walked and then Lopez (3 for 3, 3 RBI) then homered to centerfield to make it 6-0.
Tyler Caraway (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) earned his second victory of the trip, throwing a complete game 6-hitter, allowing 1 run while striking out 5 and walking 2.
Northampton, now 5-1 overall, had their second game of the day vs. Bunker Hill CC cancelled, so the Spartans are now scheduled to face Mohawk Valley Community College on Thursday morning at 9:00am before they depart for Pennsylvania.
