Big Second Half Leads Spartans to Victory Over Lehigh Carbon

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Trailing 24-17 at halftime, the Northampton Women's Basketball team responded, outscoring Lehigh Carbon Community College 43-17 in the second half to claim a 60-41 victory on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center. 

Playing their first game since December 14th, the rust was evident as the Spartans shot a paltry 20% in the first half, making only 8 of 39 shots.  "We really struggled in the first half," commented Head Coach Alyssa Bonenberger, "we were really out of sync ... hopefully this game will help us get our legs back as we hit the heart of our schedule this month."

Laura Sweger (Elizabethville, Pa./Upper Dauphin ) led the Spartans with 21 points, while Jada Holland (Laurel, MD/Springbrook (MD)) added 19 points and 21 rebounds.  Nicole Robinson (Bangor, Pa./Bangor ) tallied 15 rebounds and a team-high 8 assists, as Northampton finished with 17 assists on 26 field goals. 

The Spartans dominated the boards, outrebounding the Cougars 66-36, with with 3 players in double-figures (Moser 14).  

The victory, the 5th straight for Northampton, sends them to 7-5 overall, 4-1 in Region XIX and 4-0 in conference play.

LCCC falls to 6-11 overall, 4-5 in Region XIX and 3-4 in the EPAC. 

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they travel to Toms River, NJ to face the Vikings of Ocean County College at noon.
