Men's Basketball Opens Region XIX Play with Victory

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team opened the Region XIX portion of their schedule with a dominating 102-66 victory over defending EPAC Champion Community College of Philadelphia, on Saturday afternoon at the Rome Center.

After opening the season with two tough losses vs. NJCAA Division II programs, the Spartans took a commanding 60-33 lead vs. the Division III Colonials into the locker room at intermission and never looked back, in coasting to the 36 point win.

Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) led the Spartans with 24 points, as 5 players reached double-figures, as Northampton finished 38 of 63 from the field, 10 of 18 from behind the arc and 16 for 23  from the line.

"Really solid all-around effort," commented Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "Coach Rome always puts a good product on the floor, so we knew we had to come here ready to compete ... there is no question the competition we played the opening two games of the season helped prepare us for today.  We shot the ball really well today and were able to jump on them early."

Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) led the Spartans on the boards with 11 and also added 11 points, while Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Nasir Scott (Elkins Park, PA/Boy's Latin of Philidelphia) added 16 points and Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) added 7 assists as the Spartans improved to 1-2 overall, 1-0 in Region XIX and 1-0 in the EPAC.

Philadelphia falls to 0-2 overall.

Northampton returns to action on Tuesday when they host Valley Forge Military College at 7pm.
