Stevens Uses 3-Point Barrage to Upset Spartans

LANCASTER, Pa. -  Thaddeus Stevens College knocked down 13 3-pointers en route to a 95-91 upset of Northampton in Region XIX men's basketball action on Tuesday evening.

Playing their third conference road game in 10 days, the Spartans played a lackluster first half, falling behind 52-38 at the break.

Coach Brennan McCarthy was able to rally his troops at halftime, as Northampton outscored the Bulldogs 53-43 in the second stanza, but it was too little too late for the Spartans.

"We dug ourselves too big of a hole in the first half" stated McCarthy, "I thought we played with a lack of energy and intensity in that opening 20 minutes and Stevens took advantage of it.  Credit them, they made some big shots and Wansley (33 points) and Bossert (25 points) played well for them."

Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) led Northampton with 28 points on 13 of 19 from the field and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) added 24 points on 10 of 16 shooting.

Karee Davis (Philadelphia, PA/Mastbaum) grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out a team-high 5 assists, while D'Andre Davis (York, PA/York Catholic) chipped in with 11 points and 4 assists.

The loss drops Northampton to 3-3 overall, 3-1 in Region XIX and 3-1 in the EPAC.

Stevens improves to 6-3 overall, 4-1 in Region XIX and 3-1 in conference play.

The Spartans are off until November 27th when they hit the road again, traveling to Nanticoke, PA to face Luzerne County Community College at 7pm.
