BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Trailing 70-66 with 1:12 to play, the Northampton men's basketball team used 6 straight points from
Jay Davis (Northwest, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) to escape with a 72-70 victory over Bucks County Community College on Saturday at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Davis converted a tough baseline drive with 8 seconds left to give the Spartans a two-point advantage and Bucks' 3 pointer at the buzzer rimmed out for the thrilling come-from-behind victory.
In a game that was as tight as the score indicates, the two teams were tied for a total of 11 minutes throughout the contest, while both teams shot 38% from the field, 32% from distance and had 16 assists.
Davis finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds and was joined in double-figures by
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) with 15 and
Carlos Gutierrez (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) with 16. Hinton-Gray added 12 rebounds and
Arnel Lewis (Easton, Pa. /Easton) dished out a team-high 8 assists.
Northampton is now 19-5 overall, 15-3 in Region XIX and 13-2 in the EPAC.
Bucks falls to 12-12 overall, 9-11 in Region XIX and 9-7 in conference play.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Sussex County Community College for a 5pm tip-off vs. the Skylanders.
