BLUE BELL, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team snapped their 3-game losing streak, downing Delaware County Community College, 78-75, at the Bach Center on the campus of Montgomery County Community College Thursday evening.
Jay Davis (Northwest, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) scored 19 points,
Carlos Gutierrez (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) had 18 and
Isiah Hinton-Gray (Allentown, Pa./William Allen ) finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds as the Spartans shot 42% from the floor.
Northampton led by as many as 15 with 5:51 remaining and led by 12 with 1:26 remaining before Delaware went on a run to cut the margin to just 1 point with 4 seconds left on the clock.
Justin Ulmer (Norristown, Pa. /Norristown) calmly stepped to the line and sunk two free throws to make the final margin 78-75 and give the Spartans the much-needed victory.
"We didn't play great, but we needed this one," exclaimed Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we have been struggling a little bit the last couple of weeks ... I hope this win tonight will help get our confidence back and put us in the right frame of mind for the stretch run."
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, Pa. /Harrisburg) chipped in with 9 points and 15 rebounds, while
Arnel Lewis (Easton, Pa. /Easton) registered a game-high 10 assists.
Northampton is now 18-5 overall, 14-3 in Region XIX and 12-2 in the EPAC.
Delaware falls to 5-14 overall, 5-12 in the Region and 5-9 in conference play.
The Spartans are back home on Saturday when they host Bucks County Community College at 2:00pm.
