WAYNE, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon after semester break, defeating Valley Forge Military College, 103-57. It was the 5th time this season that the Spartans have eclipsed the century mark.
Northampton took a 45-30 lead to the locker room at intermission, and then ran away with the contest in the second half, scoring 58 points to just 27 for the Trojans.
Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) scored 30 points and
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) added 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field and hauled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
The Spartans had five players in double-figures, with
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) (15),
Michael Jackson (West Lawn, PA /Wilson West Lawn ) (10) and
Tyrese Stewart (Allentown, PA/William Allen) (10) joining Davis and Barrett.
"Not a bad effort after being off for almost a month," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "I thought we had good energy and I was pleased with the fact that we continued to defend in the second half after getting a fairly large lead."
The victory moves Northampton to 9-5 overall, 8-3 in Region XIX and 7-2 in the EPAC.
Valley Forge falls to 2-11 overall, 1-10 in Region XIX and 1-8 in conference play.
The Spartans will return to action on Tuesday night when the host of Phantoms of Delaware County Community College (4-9) at 7pm.
