BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The offense continued to run on all cylinders for the Northampton men's basketball team, as they once again eclipsed the century mark, downing Delaware County 117-74 on Tuesday night at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), who entered the game ranked 5th in the country in scoring at 26.5ppg, led the Spartans with 43 points, including a 7 for 12 performance from behind the arc.
Northampton had five players in double-figures, with
Arnel Lewis (Easton, PA/Easton) (18),
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) (14),
D'Andre Davis (York, PA/York Catholic) (12) and
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) (10) joining Davis.
The Spartans as a team finished 43 of 83 from the field (52%), including an amazing 16 of 27 from distance (59%).
"We really shot the ball well tonight," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "I'm not sure we can rely on making 16 3's every game, but I really liked how we looked for the open man and shared the ball."
Northampton was credited with 29 assists on their 43 field goals, with Lewis and Davis each finishing with 8.
Barrett and James topped the rebounding charts with 10 each, as the Spartans held a 43-35 advantage on the boards.
The win propels Northampton to 10-5 overall, 9-3 in Region XIX and 8-2 in the EPAC.
Delaware falls to 4-11 overall, 4-9 in Region XIX and 3-9 in conference play.
The Spartans are back in action on Thursday night when they host Ocean County College at 7pm.
