BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Men's Basketball team stepped up the defensive intensity on Saturday afternoon, holding Thaddeus Stevens College to 69 points and just 4 3-pointers, as the Spartans earned a 93-69 victory at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) finished with 33 points to lead the Spartans, while
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) added 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Northampton dominated the backboards, out-rebounding Stevens 44-23.
"We stuck to our defensive game-plan for the most part," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we knew they had the ability score, especially from behind the arc, so we changed up a few things from the game back in November and it paid off."
Stevens won the initial encounter back on November 20th, downing the Spartans 95-91 in Lancaster, making 13 3-pointers in the victory.
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg), the Coca-Cola Player of the Game, scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds and
Arnel Lewis (Easton, PA/Easton) chipped in with 10.
The win moves Northampton to 12-5 overall, 11-3 in Region XIX and 9-2 in the EPAC.
Stevens falls to 13-8 overall, 10-3 in Region XIX and 9-3 in conference play.
Tyler Owens led Thaddeus Stevens with 16 points.
The Spartans are now off until Tuesday January 22nd when they host Luzerne County Community College at 7pm.
