BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team won their second consecutive contest, downing Luzerne County Community College, 63-47, on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Kelsey Miller (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) led the Spartans with 14 points, while
Ashley Robinson (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) (13),
Jade Biviano (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua ) (13) and
Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA/Bangor) (10) also finished in double-figures.
In what was a tough shooting night for both teams, the Spartans out-rebounded Luzerne by an amazing 78 to 45 margin, led by
Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA/Bangor) with 19 and
Briana Petersen (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) with 17.
"Neither team shot it very well tonight," commented Head Coach
Alyssa Bonenberger, "but we were able to take advantage of our aggressiveness on the boards to get second and third opportunities."
The Spartans finished at 29% from the field, 20% from behind the arc and 28% from the charity stripe.
Nicole Robinson (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) had a season-high 10 assists to go with 5 points, 3 steals and 9 rebounds.
The win moves Northampton to 4-9 overall, 3-5 in Region XIX and 2-4 in the EPAC.
Luzerne falls to 8-11 overall, 6-6 in Region XIX and 5-4 in conference play.
The Spartans are now off until Saturday when they will travel to Harrisburg, PA to face HACC at 1pm.
