NANTICOKE, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team opened up the Region XIX portion of their schedule with a convincing 82-50 victory over Luzerne County Community College on Tuesday evening at the Thunder Dome.
The Spartans sprinted out to a 49-23 halftime lead and never looked back, knocking down 38 field goals in the victory.
Briona McClain (Stroudsburg, PA /Pocono Mt. West ) had a team-high 22 points and 12 rebounds, while
Ashley Robinson (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg South) added 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
"Overall it is a good road victory for us in conference play," commented Head Coach
Alyssa Bonenberger, "offensively I thought we did a good job sharing the ball and making the extra pass, defensively, we struggled to stop (Lisa) Radziak, she was a tough match-up for us, but we were able to limit her supporting cast." Radziak finished with 41 of Luzerne's 50 points.
Kelsey Miller (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) and
Maria Pezzino (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic ) each added 9 points, while
Briana Petersen (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals to pace Northampton.
The win moves the Spartans, to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in Region XIX and 1-0 in the EPAC.
Luzerne falls to 0-4 overall, 0-3 in Region XIX and 0-1 in the EPAC.
Northampton returns to action on Thursday night when they host Delaware County Community College at 5pm.
