Box Score SEWELL, NJ - The 7th ranked Northampton men's basketball team used a strong second half defensive effort to pull away from a 2-point halftime advantage to down RCSJ-Gloucester, 78-59, on Thursday evening at Roadrunner Arena.
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg ) scored 17 of his team-high 20 points in the second half to lead the Spartans, who outscored the Roadrunners 45-28 over the final 20 minutes of action.Â
"I thought we stepped up our intensity on both ends of the floor in the second half," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we became a little more focused and we played with a stronger sense of urgency during the second 20 minutes."
Michael Jackson (West Lawn, PA/Wilson West Lawn) added 17 points (13 in the second half), while
Raylil Law-Winton (Pennsbury, PA/Pennsbury) chipped in with 13 for the Spartans, who struggled somewhat shooting the ball tonight, finishing 33 of 79 from the field, 4 of 27 from distance and 8 of 18 from the line.Â
James hauled down a team-high 17 rebounds, while
Nazir Gossette (Philadelphia, PA/Math, Civics & Sciences Charter) grabbed 10 boards. Law-Winton led the team with 6 assists and Jackson added 5 to pace the Spartans.Â
The Spartans improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Region XIX with the victory.Â
RCSJ-Gloucester falls to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in Region XIX.Â
Northampton is back in action on Tuesday the 26th when they host EPAC-rival Lehigh Carbon Community College at 7pm.
