Box Score TOMS RIVER, NJ - The 8th ranked Northampton men's basketball team used an 18-5 run over the final four minutes of the game to earn a 95-70 victory over Ocean County College on Saturday, as Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy picked up his 100th career victory (100-54).
The Spartans placed five players in double-figures, led by
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg ) with 22,
Marquise McClean (York, PA/William Penn ) with 16,
Raylil Law-Winton (Pennsbury, PA/Pennsbury) and
Michael Jackson (West Lawn, PA/Wilson West Lawn) each with 15 and
Marvin Freeman (Chester, PA/Sun Valley) with 11. Northampton finished 36 of 65 from the floor, 7 of 16 from distance and 16 of 28 from the charity stripe.Â
"I thought the guys did a good job day overall," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we had a very strong first half (47-28 Northampton lead), I thought we were a little slow out of the locker room after halftime, but after Ocean cut it to nine (56-47) with 13 minutes to play, I thought we were able to refocus and get back to what made us successful in the first half."Â When asked about achieving his 100th career win, McCarthy was quick to acknowledge his coaching staff and players, "Wins are a team statistic ... I have been very fortunate to have great players and great assistants during my time at Northampton."
James led the Spartans on the glass with 14 rebounds, while McClean added 7 boards. Law-Winton recorded 7 assists and James added 5.Â
The win moves Northampton to 13-1 overall and 10-1 in Region XIX as they head to Holiday Break.Â
Ocean falls to 5-6 overall and 5-6 in Region play.Â
The Spartans are now off until January 11th when they host Valley Forge Military College.Â
