BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a match-up of two of Region XIX's top men's teams, the Roadrunners of RCGC outlasted Northampton, 82-79, on Thursday night at the Arthur L. Scott Center, as the game tying 3-point attempt from the Spartans bounced off the rim as time expired.
Poor shooting plagued the Spartans throughout the contest, as they finished 30 of 87 from the field (35%) and 6 of 37 from behind the arc (16%).
"We obviously didn't shoot it well, but credit RCGC's defense, they played very hard," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "overall, we hit a number of our markers tonight, including winning the rebounding battle and limiting them to under 40% from the field, but it wasn't enough tonight."
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) finished with a huge double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 22 rebounds, while
Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) added 26 points,
Michael Jackson (West Lawn, PA /Wilson West Lawn ) 11 and
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) 10.
Arnel Lewis (Easton, PA/Easton) dished out 8 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds for Northampton.
The loss drops Northampton to 18-7 overall and 15-5 in Region XIX.
The 5th ranked Roadrunners improve to 27-3 overall and 22-2 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are set to host the EPAC Championship Tournament this weekend, where they will face 4th seeded Harrisburg Area Community College at 3pm on Saturday.
