BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team played one of their most complete games of the year on Thursday evening, but in the end a 4 for 17 performance from the charity stripe doomed the Spartans upset bid of RCGC, as they fell 71-64.
Despite having four players in double figures, the 23% effort from the foul line doomed the Spartans, "I was really proud of how we played," remarked Head Coach
Alyssa Bonenberger, "we executed offensively and defensively we were able to force 18 turnovers, however we just did not get it done at the line."
Ashley Robinson (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) scored a team-high 17 points, followed by
Kelsey Miller (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) with 14 and
Jade Biviano (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua ) and
Briana Petersen (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg North) both with 10.
Petersen hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds, as the Spartans had 16 offensive rebounds in the game.
The loss drops Northampton to 6-13 overall and 5-9 in Region XIX.
RCGC earns a Region XIX playoff berth, improving to 13-12 overall and 10-8 in the Region.
The Spartans will be competing in the EPAC tournament this weekend, when they travel to Philadelphia to face the Colonials at 3pm on Saturday.
