Box Score CRANFORD, NJ - The 2018-19 season came to an end for the Northampton men's basketball team on Tuesday evening, as the Spartans dropped a Region XIX playoff match-up vs. Union County College, 92-87 in overtime, at the Owls Nest.
In a game as tight as the score indicates, the #4 seeded Owls and 5th seeded Spartans battled for 45 minutes with each team making big plays down the stretch before Union was able to take control in the extra period and advance to the Region XIX Final Four.Â
"It was a typical 4/5 match-up," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "two real good teams going toe to toe ... I was happy with how we competed, but give Union credit they made some really big shots when it counted ..."
Elijah Barrett (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) led Northampton with 20 points, followed by
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) with 19,
Jay Davis (Northwest, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) and
D'Andre Davis (York, PA/York Catholic) each with 14 and
Arnel Lewis (Easton, PA/Easton) with 10.Â
James led the Spartans with 12 rebounds, while Barrett added 8.
Union knocked down 14 3-pointers on the night, compared to just 3 for Northampton.
Northampton ends the season at 21-9.Â
Union will advance to the Region XIX Final Four where they will face #1 RCGC on Saturday at Brookdale.Â
