TOMS RIVER, NJ - The 2nd ranked Northampton Baseball team split a Region XIX doubleheader on Saturday at Ocean County College, falling 7-5 in game one and rebounding to take game two, 2-0.
GAME ONE - Lost 7-5
A 6-run 4th inning put the Spartans in a 6-3 hole, from which they never recoved, in falling to the Vikings 7-5 in game one on Saturday afternoon at Viking Park.
Colton Langworthy (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) took the loss, falling to 2-3 on the season, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6 in 3.2 innings of work.
Nick Klee (Reading, PA/Exeter) came on in relief and pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out none.
Tommy Dunleavy (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) paced the offense with a 2 for 4 performance, including a homerun and 2 RBI.
Corey Stouffer (Souderton, PA/North Penn) was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI and
Brandon Ernst (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) finished 1 for 2 with a double and 2 runs scored.
GAME TWO - Won 2-0
Brandon Walters (York, PA/Central York) went the distance in game two, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing 6 hits, while striking out 5.
Walters improved to 7-0 on the season with the win.
Tyler Horvath (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) was 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI and
Brandon Ernst (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) finished 1 for 3 with a double to lead the Spartan offense.
The split makes Northampton 34-8 overall and 15-2 in Region XIX.
Ocean moves to 22-14 overall and 10-10 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are scheduled to host 9th ranked Brookdale on Sunday in a doubleheader at noon.
