Box Score HARRISBURG, Pa. - Playing for just the second time since December 14th, the 7th ranked Northampton men's basketball team used a lockdown defensive effort in the second half to pull away from a 51-48 halftime lead to down Harrisburg Area Community College, 93-65, on Tuesday evening.
The Spartans allowed only 17 points in the second half, holding the Hawks to 6 field goals over the final 20 minutes of action. "Credit the guys," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "no one was happy at halftime with the fact that we had allowed 48 points, I thought the guys did a great job of coming out with a renewed emphasis on the defensive end in the second half."
Nazir Gossette (Philadelphia, PA/Math, Civics & Sciences Charter) scored 15 points to lead four Spartans in double figures, including
D'Andre Davis (York, PA/York Catholic ) with 14,
Michael Jackson (West Lawn, PA/Wilson West Lawn) with 12 and
Raylil Law-Winton (Pennsbury, PA/Pennsbury) with 12.
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg ) led the Spartans on the boards with 10, while Law-Winton dished out 6 assists.
The win moves Northampton to 15-1 overall, 11-1 in Region XIX and 8-1 in the EPAC. The Spartans are now 18-2 all-time vs. the Hawks.
Harrisburg falls to 3-15 overall, 2-9 in Region and 2-9 in conference.
The Spartans are back on the road on Thursday when they travel to (RV) Camden County College (11-3) for a 7pm tip.
